Parent Info Morning
Students are now reading conventionally. The kindergarten team would like to invite you to a parent info session to help you understand how you can support your growing reader at home as well as go over what we do in the classroom. We will be holding this session from 8:30 - 9:00 am on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Hope you can make it.
Reading Workshop
Students have noticed that the patterns in our books are starting to go away. When that happens we need to call on stronger picture power as well as strengthen our sight word power. Taking a quick look at the picture may not help us to solve a tricky word. We need to search the whole picture for information. Helping to think about what the characters might be saying will also help us to read. Keep reading and practicing sight words. Please return book envelopes and books every day!
Writing Workshop
We are learning how to play TAG in our writing. Students have begun by learning how to Tell a compliment to their partner’s writing. Using one of our charts that shows what good how to writing looks like, students are able to get specific with what it is that their partners are doing well. We will then move towards Asking a question and Giving a suggestion.
Math Workshop
We have begun to work with 2D/flat shapes. We are learning about corners and sides. Students can look around the world around them to see shapes everywhere!
Word Work
Students are continuing to work on blending and segmenting sounds in CVC words. You can practice at home. Give students the individual sounds and have them put them together to make a word or give the word and have students tell you the individual sounds in that word.
Here are some words you can use: Bat, sat, vet, pen, pin, fit, mop, dot, mut, sun
You can even play with nonsense words: gaf, sep, bur, wap, zin, fot
Snap Words: I, a, the, to, it, see, you, and, we, can, look, in, on, like, me, my, be, are, at
Social Studies
We talked about Chinese New Year and Groundhog Day.
