Reading Workshop
This week students worked on using extra strength picture power and snap word power. When the pattern in books is gone, you need to look at the page to see what is happening to read the new words. Also knowing sight words helps you to read faster and not stop to solve too many words.
How to help:
- Read a page or two to your child and see if they can continue to read the rest of the book.
- Identify the pattern - what is the same and what is different.
- Practice sight words.
We continued to work on writing for our readers. We have been working hard to be sure that we leave spaces between words and hear as many sounds as we can. We worked on choosing the right middle (vowel) sounds in the words we want to write.
Word Work
Taught sight words: a, and, at, are, am,, an, by, be, come, can, do, go, got, he has, ahve, it, is, I, in, little, like, look, me, my, no, one, see, she, said, the, to, we, went, you, yes
How to help:
- You can practice naming all the letters below, making the sounds, and writing the lowercase letter.
- Read and write sight words! I am sending home a complete list of K sight words. You can introduce words as you wish.
- Tap sounds in words like: fog, fit, cat, mat, nap, nip, etc.
Students finished up unit 3. We will be moving into a new unit on 2D and 3D shapes next week.
How to help:
- Count to 100
- Count backward from 30
- Count on or backward from a different number other than 1
- Write numbers 6-10
- Count a group of objects
We learned about Martin Luther King, Jr.
Science
We began our new unit on Pushes and Pulls. Students learned what a force is and practiced pushing and pulling objects. We found that we can make things go faster with the force of our push or pull.
