Reading Workshop
We are working on building our conversational skills during partner talk time. Students are learning ways to start conversations about books and how to keep them going. Next week, we will begin our reading spirit days. For the rest of the school year we will follow that schefule. We begin next week with Towel Tuesday. Don’t forget those towels!
Writing Workshop
Students are writing and sharing many wonderful stories. We are working on perfecting our letter writing. Don’t forget to talk about what things you have done as a family to help come up with new and exciting story ideas.
Word Work
We have been having fun making words out of a group of letters. Students are trying to find as many words as they can using a set of given letters. We are continuing to tap and blend each sound. We are also working on changing the beginnings and endings of words to make new words.
Math Workshop
We continue to work on addition and subtraction. This week we are working building fluency with our math facts. We have learned strategies to solve math facts in our heads and not on our fingers. We are solving and making up our own number stories. Keep working on practicing these facts as home to build fluency.
Things to do at home:
Practice number combinations to 5. Ex. 1 and 4, 3 and 2.
Practice number combinations to 10. Ex. 8 and 2, 7 and 3.
To practice number combinations, use beads, cereal, pasta etc, pen and paper, flash cards, memory recall.
Play War - winner can have greater or less than number. Before winner takes the cards, they need to say 8 is greater than 6.
Counting to 100
Counting backward from 20
Count by tens to 100
Count on or backward from a given number not 1 or 10. Example count on starting at 7 or count backward from 13.
