Mrs. Aithal’s Room 13 News
Reading Workshop
Students have been working hard to build their reading muscles using their superpowers! This week, readers learned to find the pattern of their books, the words that repeat on every page, to read smoother and faster. Students also worked to pay close attention to the punctuation in their books so they could know how to read the words.
Writing Workshop
Students continued to learn how to write like scientists. This week we tried to make pattern books using our sight words. For example: - I see . . . Look at the . . .
Students also learned how to go back and fix their writing if they did not add spaces when they were doing their first draft. Drawing a line between words where a space should go made writing easier to read. We practiced switching between reader and writer so we did not forget the words we wanted to say

We are continuing to work on counting, cardinality, and decomposing numbers 1-5. Students are working on finding the parts of number. For example 5 is made up of 3 and 2 or 4 and 1. We learned how to show the part when showing our thinking in answering story problems.

Social Studies and Science
We got together with our second grade buddies. We worked on a special project, at a request from a former teacher of Mrs. Harkin and mine. She was wondering if we would be willing to write notes to a service person who is deployed overseas who doesn't have the support from home that many have. We look forward to this being an activity we do throughout the year.
