Reading Workshop
We have finished learning about the ways to “read” our old favorite storybooks. We dressed up like the characters from our books and paraded around the school. We even got to read to our second grade buddies!
Writing Workshop
Students also finished up their first writing unit! Students worked on making their favorite story the very best it could be by adding more to the words and the pictures. We even got to add some detail through coloring. This unit’s stories will come home next week.
Word Work
This week, we learned how to write and make the sound for the letters c and o You can practice naming these letters, making the sounds, and writing the lowercase letter. As we add more sight words to our list, you can practice reading these words too!
C - cat - /c/
O - octopus - /o/
Taught letters: t, b, f, n, m, i, u, c, o
Taught sight words: a, is, my
Math Workshop
Students are continuing to work on number formations to 5. This week, we worked on learning how to decide if a group of objects is more or less than another. Students discovered that lining the two groups of objects up and matching them with a partner, allowed them to see which group had more or less. We compared numbers on a number line and learned that when we count, a number is bigger than another if you say it after the other number.

This year, we will have a buddy class with Mrs. Harkin’s second grade. We will get together several times a month for activities. Mrs. Harkin and I have a former teacher of ours from High School who has adopted a service member. She has asked us to help her send some cards and crafts from the USA. We often make something special for her to send overseas! This week, we made some Halloween cards. Other times, we may read, share our writing, or make something for our school or home.
