Read books coming home in folders and return folders and books daily!
Writing Workshop
Students have been very busy writing like scientists. They have been working on using expert words to tell more. On Thursday, students learned they can make books to tell even more about their findings.
Things to do at home:
Find things and help discuss what you notice about size, color, texture, shape, etc.
Word Work and Phonemic Awareness Skills
This week, students learned 2 new letters.
d - dog /d/ s -snake /s/
Taught letters: t, b, f, n, m, i, u, c, o, a, g, d, s
Snap words: I, a, see, the, at, like, look
Things to do at home:
Practice letter recognition, sound, and handwriting formation
Rhyme - identify and generate
Listen for first sounds in words and identify multiple words that start with the same sound
Syllables in words
Math Workshop
Students continued to work on listening to math stories and worked on finding ways to solve them. This week, we focused on subtraction stories.
Example: There were 3 bears in the woods. 2 bears are left. How many bears are still in the woods?
Things to do at home:
Write numbers 1-5
You can rote count to ten or beyond
Count a group of objects to ten
Field Trip
Remember that students will need a bag lunch for the field trip. If possible, please pack lunches in brown bags and try not to pack plastic containers. It would be easiest if all that was sent can be thrown away when finished!
