Reading Workshop
It was a big week for reading! Students began “reading” old favorite story books this week. Since the start of school, I have read a few books over and over again. Students should know the stories so well that when they look at the pictures, they can remember how the story goes and “read.” Last night, a book folder went home with one of these old favorite books. I will continue to be adding to our old favorite books list over the next few weeks. Books will continue to come home, M-Th. Read them, love them, and please return them the next day.
Writing Workshop
Students also had a big week in writing! They learned that they can plan out a single story over three pages. Students are now writing three page books about the things they know about. They are working on adding more and more labels to their pictures. Students learned that writers write words by saying the word slooowly and then writing down the first sound they hear, and the next, and the next until they hear no more sounds.
Math Workshop
This week, we finished our first math unit on counting and measurement! You can continue to use positional words to describe locations of objects around the house i.e. “The book is next to the lamp” or “The remote is in front of the TV.” You can also continue to encourage your child to find objects longer, shorter, taller, or heavier than other objects. Next week, we will begin a new unit on counting and cardinality in numbers 0 to 3.

We have learned how to properly form and make the sound associated with the letters M and N.
