We will be wrapping up our storytelling unit next week. On Thursday, we would like to celebrate all of our hard work in reading. We will dress like the characters we have been reading about and share our favorite books with each other and our second grade buddies. Look for a separate notice explaining our character celebration. This week, we worked on using connecting words like then, next, and after that to connect the pages that we have read in our books. We worked on reading more and more of the words that are exactly the same in our old favorite storybooks. Students even began to hunt and point to some of the exact words. Students learned how to be powerful partners.
Writing Workshop
Students have begun to write true stories about things that have happened to them or things that they have done. We have been adding more detail to our pictures and adding more words to our stories. Students are working on moving on from one page stories to telling a story across 3 or more pages.
Word Work
Letters of the week:
I - itch - /i/
U - up - /u/
Students learned the proper letter lower case formation of the letters as well as the sound those letters make. Please practice letter sounds at home!

Math Workshop
We have moved into a new math unit on counting, cardinality, and decomposing numbers 1-5. This week students worked on writing the numbers 0-5. Students participated in a variety of tasks that allowed them to count and represent numbers 1-5. We learned how to use a new math tool called a five frame. A five frame is a way to help keep us organized in our counting.
Social Studies and Science
This week we got together for the first time with our second grade buddies. We are partnering up with Mrs. Harkin and her students for some fun activities throughout the year. For our first get together, we got to know each other and drew a picture of our new buddies.
We started to talk about fall and all it has to offer! Students learned how to make applesauce and enjoyed eating our yummy treat!
