Reading Workshop
What a great group of “readers” we have!! We have learned some great skills this week. We are working on slowing down and noticing more on each page of our books. Students know to start with the cover and look at every page until the very end. Students learned that there are 2 kinds of books, storybooks and learn about the world books. We are working on reading learn about the world books. Like there are 2 kinds of books, we have practiced 2 kinds of reading. Students are working on reading privately to themselves and then with a reading partner.
Writing Workshop
Students have shown great writing abilities as well! Students learned that all writers begin by thinking of a topic and then drawing a picture about that topic. Some students have been working to add words to their writing as well. Writers have learned a catchy little phrase that we will use often during writing time. “When you are done, you’ve just begun!”. Students are encouraged to add more to the pictures, add to the words, or start a new story.
Word Work
Students were introduced to the special paper that we will use to form each letter correctly. Each week, we will be learning how to write lowercase letters. This week, we learned how to write the letter t. Students also learned the correct sound that the letter t makes. Each letter has a special picutre associated with it to help us remember the sound. We say the letter, then name the picture, and make the sound.
Example:
T - top - /t/
Math Workshop
Students are working on counting objects and matching them to a numeral. We also learned about positional words and how they help describe the location of things.
Vocabulary learned: by, next to, beside, above, below, in front of, behind,
Social Studies
Students are continuing to learn how to play with each other and new toys, games, and playground equipment. We are talking about what is going well and what we think needs to change. We will use these ideas next week to help create our classroom social contract.
Extras
If you send me an email and I do not respond, please let me know!! Often times, I will find emails lumped into old threads. I certainly do not want to miss any notes from you!
