Today we made Mac and Cheese! We use cooking as part of our retelling skill building. The children were excited to make mac and cheese from scratch. Alex cut up the butter and put it in the electric frying pan, Ava added flour and Ms. Atwood mixed those two together and it looked like paste. Arlo pured five cups of milk and children added the milk one cup at a time to the paste. The children were not sure at ALL about the mustard powder going in! Quinn grated the monterey jack cheese and the cheddar cheese was already grated. The milk bubbled and steam came out and a lot of it went away. When the milk was thick enough to stick to the whisk, Ms. Atwood added all of the cheese and stirred. Then she poured the cheese over the pan of cooked pasta. Mrs. Lamb took it to the cafeteria where it baked while we were at gym. We got to eat it, deliciously hot when we got back from gym. It got two thumbs up from everyone who tried it!
