The children have been learning about pushes and pulls. We read the book Newton and Me. Then the children used dominoes to create different paths and then watched what happened when the dominoes collided.

Wind GaugesWe made wind gauges using toilet papers rolls and colored tissue paper and then went outside to see which way the wind was blowing.
More About Our Pen Pal VisitOne of the questions on the interview paper was about favorite things to do outside at recess. So after the meeting and interview, the girls and boys went outside to play on our playground and have fun together!!! We had s great time with our pen pals and are looking forward to having them at BES next year!!!!
THANK YOU to the BES and HES PTOs for co-sponsoring the Cultural Arts Program that helped to bring us together!!! More About Our Pen PalsAfter the Cultural Arts Program, we went back to Mrs. Burt and Mrs. Aithal’s classrooms to meet our pen pals from Mrs. Boudreau and Mrs. LaCoss’ kindergarten classes from HES! The girls and boys chatted together and then interviewed their pen pal, asking them questions about things like their favorite foods, colors and things to do at recess! As the children answered, their pen pal drew the answer of their pen pal on their paper, so they could keep the paper to remember things about their pen pals!! The children had fun meeting each other and doing the activity!!!Meeting Our Pen PalsThe girls and boys from our school have been pen pals with the students from Haddam Elementary School for a few months. We have been sending letters and cards back and forth and getting to know each other a little. On Wednesday, March 20, the PTOs from both schools co-sponsored a cultural arts program all about reading!!! The program was at BES and the kids from grades K - 3 rode the bus to join us!!!
The children from HES sat with the kids from their grade at BES! There was lots of talking, clapping and singing, along with a guitar about books and reading!!! Some children were called up on stage to participate up front, while everyone else joined in at their places!!!! It was fun!! A Leprauchan VisitOn Monday morning, March 18 when we entered our classroom, we found a BIG mess with chairs turned over and toys left out, green decorations and signs saying Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Not only that - there were little green footprints on our tables!!! The children suspected that leprauchans had paid a visit to our classroom!!!! We also found another footprint by our morning message and a note and some magic powder in a container from O’Reilly about what to do with the magic powder. We had to get milk from the fridge (the leprauchan left it there for us!) and mix it with the powder saying a special poem: Lelrauchan, leprauchan Shamrocks seen Magic powder Green, green, green!!! After we shook the magic powder with the milk, we had to put it back in the fridge for awhile. Near the end of the day, we got to eat it and discovered it tasted a lot like pudding!!! But guess what?!?! It had turned GREEN!!! And it was yummy!!! After eating O’Reilly’s special treat, we went outside for a few minutes before going home. When we came back inside - guess what we found? GOLD!!! FOR EVERYONE!!!!
Those leprauchans sure made a mess - but they helped make sure we had a fun day!!! Hope you had a fun St. Patrick’s Day, too!!! Green Day st BESFriday, March 15 was also “Green Day” at BES!!! The children wore green and brought in some money, which was donated to the Haddam Fuel. Thank you to everyone who participated and got us in the mood for St. Patrick’s Day - and also helped raise some money for the Haddam Fuel Bank!!!!
Visitors From the High SchoolOn Friday, March 15 some students in the National Honor Society came to read books in some of the classes! We were one of those lucky classes and the girls and boys heard a fun leprauchan story!!! THANK YOU to the National Honor Society students who came to read at BES!!!! We loved listening to your stories!!!!
Eating Green Eggs and HamOn Friday afternoon, March 8 we ended our celebration of Dr. Seuss with some green eggs and ham! While Mrs. Lamb read Green Eggs and Ham, I made some green eggs and ham with my special recipe! I have to say that I have made green eggs and ham many, many years for my kindergarteners!!! And I have to say that I do not think I have had another class that liked green eggs and ham as much as this class did!!!! There was not one child who wouldn’t try it, or said they didn’t like it!!! They LOVED them and just about everyone asked for more - and they couldn’t stop talking about them!!! Congratulations on raising children who are not afraid to try new things!!! I have to say their enthusiasm made it so fun for me - and for them, too!!!
