Spirit to Overcome Cultural Arts ProgramOn Monday morning February 3 our PTO sponsored a cultural arts program about strong African American women who overcame adversity and used perseverance to succeed in their dreams. The presenter took the students back to the early days of slavery. She chose children from the audience and they had an imaginary escape on the Underground Railroad. She chose another group of children to act out when Rosa Parks got on the bus and refused to move to a different section. The presenter used simple costumes to transform into some of the characters and slides as visual aids for most of the women she spoke about. Some of those women were Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Michelle Obama and Coretta Scott King. All these women shared the Spirit to Overcome and are an inspiration to keep your spirits strong when faced with adversity! THANK YOU PTO FOR THE CULTURAL ARTS PROGRAM THAT BROUGHT HISTORY TO LIFE FOR THE CHILDREN!!!!
School Wide Town MeetingOn Friday, January 31 we had our monthly school wide town meeting. Mrs. Whidden recognized many students and classes, including those who met their goal for being trustworthy. Our class met this goal and were happy to hear their class announced!!! Mrs. Whidden also told everyone about our new character trait to work on in February: fairness. The student council did some skits showing fairness in school situations. Some examples included: including everyone, being fair in all games, and having even teams Next, Mrs. Whidden showed some slides teaching about fairness. Ways to be fair include: taking turns, no cheating, treating everyone with respect, sharing, and playing by the rules. Let’s work together to show fairness this month!!!
