Today we played a game called "Can I please have some more?" Each time students asked, they got another goldfish. Students then had to make a number sentence to match how many fish they had. A great way to practice teen numbers!

Reading Workshop We are working on being resourceful when we read. We are not giving up when we find tricky words or parts in our books. We are remembering our strategies to help us get unstuck. Students are putting into practice our three favorite questions before moving on in the text. Does it make sense? Does it match and go with all that has already happened in the story? Does it sound right? Does it match the way we talk? We don’t say “Him goed to the park.” We say “He went to the park.” Does it look right. Do the letters match the sounds I made? Look at first and last letter and move eyes through the word making all sounds and thinking about what it must be. Writing Workshop Students are working on sharing their opinions. We are finding all kinds of problems in our classroom, schools, homes, communities, world and giving solutions to how we might fix them. We have been writing stories, letters, songs, and making posters to share our ideas. Math Workshop We have been working on teen numbers. We are working on recognizing teen numbers as a group of ten and some extra. Keep practicing addition and subtraction facts! Social Studies We learned a lot about Earth Day. We have read many books about how we can care for the Earth. We tied many of the lessons learned into great writing projects. Science We have been learning lots about spring. We have planted many different kinds of plants. We have examined seeds and are conducting several experiments with seeds. Yesterday, we sprouted mung beans in a jar. We had many kids who really enjoyed eating them today!!! Some kids say they wanted to do this at home. I buy my mung beans at the Indian Grocery on Rt 154 in Middletown.
