Reading Workshop
This week, we began a new reading unit called Bigger Books, Bigger Reading Muscles. In this unit, we are going to really be putting our reading super powers to use. Students have already worked to identify what is going to make books more challenging. We noticed that our books are going to start to have more and more lines on a page, new words, longer words, and that our books might have surprise endings. We spend a lot of time this week looking at the patterns in our books. The pattern can help us to read almost every page. How to help:

This week, students learned how to tap our individual sounds they hear in words. This is a skill that we can use to read and write new words. Sip - Students would say /s/ /i/ /p/ and then blend the sounds together to say the word sip. While they are making the sounds, they are using their fingers to make the individual sounds. The pointer finger touches the thumb for the first sound, the middle finger touches the thumb for the middle sound, and the ring finger touches the thumb for the last sound. Then all the fingers come across the thumb to blend the word together. Taught letters: All letters of the alphabet have now been taught!
