Reading Workshop
Readers have learned and reviewed many strategies to help them tackle hard words and tricky parts in books. Students need to keep making sure what they read makes sense, looks right, and sounds right before moving on. Next week, we will begin a unit called Avid Readers. We will end our year working on being the best readers we can be.
How to help:
Students are writing up a storm in our How-To book unit. Their writing has really improved this unit! We are working on remembering all the other things that make our writing great too! You can help by practicing and talking about the things they know how to do. For example, make cereal, make hot cocoa, chocolate milk, brush teeth, get ready for bed, etc.
Word Work
We will continue to make real and nonsense words. Students will be tapping out sounds and writing the letters to match. We will also work on manipulating the beginning, middle, or ending sounds to make new words.
How to help:
Math Workshop
We have begun our final unit on fluency. This week we spent lots of time reviewing problem solving steps so we can be accurate. Students need to be sure they know when to add or subtract and how to show their thinking, as well as how to check their work to be sure it has been done correctly. Please practice math facts with the flashcards that went home.
How to help:
Our bean seeds have sprouted. We will begin some experiments to find out what plants need to survive.
