Students are now reading conventionally. The kindergarten team would like to invite you to a parent info session to help you understand how you can support your growing reader at home as well as go over what we do in the classroom. We will be holding this session from 8:30 - 9:00 am on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Hope you can make it.
Parent Teacher Conferences
March 1 and 2 are early dismissal days for students. Parent teacher conferences will be held on those days. I created a signup Genius for this event. If you have not signed up and would like to, reach out to me or check the sign up page.
Reading Workshop
We are now using our bigger reading muscles to read bigger books! We finished up our unit on how to make our super powers extra strength and are moving on to a new unit. Our new unit is reading for information. Students will be reading nonfiction and learning all about book features that are found in non fiction.
Writing Workshop
Students finished writing How To books. We are now moving on to All About books. This unit coincides with out reading unit on nonfiction. Students will be writing books about things they are experts on and things they know a lot about. We began this unit with a tiny topics journal. Students brainstormed things they knew a lot about ie animals, vehicles, holidays, people, etc. The journals went home to be finished and returned. If you still have your tiny topics journal at home, please return it so students can reference it during writing if needed.
Math Workshop
We finished up our math unit on shapes. We are moving on to a quick unit on introducing students to fluency in addition and subtraction.
Word Work
Students are continuing to work on blending and segmenting sounds in CVC words. You can practice at home. Give students the individual sounds and have them put them together to make a word or give the word and have students tell you the individual sounds in that word.
Here are some words you can use: Bat, sat, vet, pen, pin, fit, mop, dot, mut, sun
You can even play with nonsense words: gaf, sep, bur, wap, zin, fot
Snap Words: I, a, the, to, it, see, you, and, we, can, look, in, on, like, me, my, be, are, at, said, has, as, have
Social Studies
We learned a little bit about Presidents Day and focused on George Washington and Abe Lincoln.
