Students have noticed that some of the books we are reading have trickier words. We are learning strategies to read those new tricky words. We were looking at the beginning of words for blends ( two letters together bl, gr, sm). We also training our eyes to move to the ends of a words for more clues. Reading sight words quickly will really help to move readers along faster. Students are getting a complete list of the 54 words that need to be known by the end of the year. You are welcome to practice and read those words at home if you wish. Please return book envelopes and books every day!
This week, we looked closely at mentor text. We have been working to add a few good writing techniques to our own stories. We have learned how to bold special and important words. We have even been working on giving our reader some tips or suggestions that will help them complete the task we are teaching them.
Students have been using ten frames to look at some counters and guess how many more needed to get to 10. We are now finished with our unit 9-10. We will be moving on to 2D and 3D shapes soon.
Students are continuing to work on blending and segmenting sounds in CVC words. We are even changing he first, middle, and last sounds in words to make new words.
