Reading Workshop
This week students continued to work with letter sounds to help them read new words. Using the first sound and the picture together can be a powerful strategy! We also spent some time look at blends. Students can blend letters like bl, st, sl, fl, gr to read new words.
How to help:
This week, students finished up writing like scientists. We spent lots of time labeling objects based upon color, size, shape and texture. Some students even wrote simple sentences to tell about their pictures. Stories went home yesterday.
We will begin a new unit next week called Writing for Readers. In this unit, we will really use all we know about writing words, patterned sentences, spaces and letter formations to work on making our writing easy to read for others.
Word Work
Taught sight words: a, is, my, I, see, like, look, at, the, can, and, be, he, she, me, we, said, one, no, yes, has, got
How to help:
Students worked on using number bonds to help them find number combinations (decomposing numbers 3 and 2 make 5. We reviewed additions and subtraction number stories.
