What an awesome week to be a reader! Students began a new unit on reading superpowers. Over the next few weeks, we will learn some new powers to help us read conventionally! This week, Reader Man, visited the class and left us pointer sticks. The pointer sticks help us to point to the words on the page. We practiced using our pointer power all week! We know that each word only gets one tap, no matter how long it is! Students learned that we can make our pointer power even stronger by pointing to a word and recognizing it as a snap word and then reading it in a snap! You will all be amazed very soon at your little readers!!!!!
Writing Workshop
We have gone back to writing narrative stories about the things that happened to us or things we did. Always good to brainstorm some ideas at home so students have lots and lots of writing ideas. Have them practice telling you about those special memories orally. Over the next few weeks, we will be working to make our writing easy to read. We have learned that to be easy to read, we need: neat pictures, spaces between letters and words, lots and lots of letters to match the sounds we hear, and to not make too many cross outs. Our writing gets better and better each day!
Math Workshop
This week, we have been learning if numbers are more or less than other numbers. We have been using five frames to represent a given number. A five frame is a box with five empty boxes in a row. We can place various manipulatives in those boxes to represent numbers 0-6
. Lining up numbers in the five frame and with some under helps us to see “who has more” If there is a line of objects that is longer or does not have a “partner” than it is more.
Example
0 0 0 0 0
0 0
