What a great visit we had from Ms. Bonnie and Ms. Ev and their furry, and not so furry, friends form the Ray of Light Farm in East Haddam! They shared a video about their farm, talked about what horses need to live and grow. Next we got to meet Tippy the tortoise and his much larger tortoise friend. We leaned about what they eat, how long they live and how big they can get. Did you know that their tortoise, Stella weighs over 100lbs?! After that, we got to visit with 3 adorable guinea pigs. They chomped on some lettuce and skittered around a bit. Then we got to pet them! Ms. Bonnie and Ms. Ev talked to us a lot about the animals and how to care for them. It's a good thing, too, because Tippy is coming to stay with us in the classroom for the rest of the week! We are SO excited!!! Thanks to all who offered donations for us to give to them to put towards their farm! Check out these cool pictures from their visit!
Parent Conferences will be held next week. There will be a half day for students on both Thursday March 1st and Friday March 2nd. I can't wait to share the tremendous growth of your kiddos with all of you! Below is a link to our conference schedule just in case!
We've been having so much fun in class lately, I had to share some pictures so you could enjoy it too! We've been working on teamwork and cooperation in our center time and it has really sparked our creativity! We've had lots of building going on in our legos and blocks centers and they've been serving up the best grub in town in our restaurant! We've been listening for vowels and flipping pancake sight words. We also tried making 3D shapes with playdough! We love learning!!!
We made nachos to practice how to write a "How To" book! We made sure to include EVERY step - especially the eating part!! Yum!
boy, for a week with 2 half days, we sure packed in a lot! Check out our Ask Me About to see what we're learning.
We had some buddy time too! With the help of Mrs. Johnson, we had a challenge to make a boat out of tin foil and see if it could float. Then we tested it buy filling it to see how many pennies it could hold before sinking! Check out these pictures!
We also had a Cultural Arts program called "Suds!" from the Connecticut Science Center. What fun! Check out all that we learned about...BUBBLES! Thanks to our PTO and all of the families who help fundraise throughout the year for making these visits possible.
What a wonderful time we had wrapping up 2017! It began with our All School Sing, followed by our third grade buddies reading books they wrote and published about their family traditions and finished up with an amazing holiday party! Thank so much to all the parents who contributed to the fun and extra special thanks to Mrs. Sciascia and Mrs. Harlow for coordinating the fun! I can’t thank you enough for the generous gift certificate to LaForesta! Mr. Burt and I have already picked a date to use it! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and much as I have so far! See you next year! Look out, 2018, here we come!!
